Your Team Responsibilities

The AI Index R&D team is part of MSCI’s broader Index Research and Development organization, driving innovation through the integration of artificial intelligence and data science into index research, construction, and delivery.
Our team develops AI-powered tools, frameworks, and workflows that enhance the efficiency, scalability, and insight generation of index research. We work closely with Data & AI, Index Engineering, and Index Product teams to explore how large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic systems can transform how MSCI designs, evaluates, and communicates index methodologies.
The team operates at the intersection of AI research, applied engineering, and financial analytics, combining technical innovation with domain expertise to shape the next generation of MSCI Index capabilities.

About the company

MSCI

Company overview
MSCI is a financial services company that builds indexes, analytics, and data products used across global investment markets. MSCI is best known for equity and fixed income indexes (including widely used benchmarks), plus portfolio and risk analytics, sustainability and climate data, and private assets tooling. MSCI’s clients include asset managers and asset owners, private-market sponsors and investors, hedge funds, wealth managers, banks, insurers, and corporates. MSCI’s products are typically embedded in investment research, product design (like ETFs), risk oversight, and reporting workflows.

Locations and presence

MSCI lists open roles across 31 locations, with teams spread globally across technology, data and operations, research, product, and client-facing functions. MSCI describes a hybrid work environment that prioritises in-person collaboration, with offices positioned as hubs for learning and teamwork.

MSCI is a solid early-career choice if you want a mix of finance and technology, because the company runs a structured 9-week summer internship and backs this with clear candidate guidance for technology hiring. The biggest strengths are transparency on interview stages in tech and visible investment in onboarding and learning tools, while the main limits are thin published data on intern conversion and early-career progression outcomes.
