Overview

‍‍

Microsoft Azure offers customers a scalable, on-demand infrastructure and platform to build, host, and operate services across a global network of datacenters. At the heart of this ecosystem is the Azure Compute platform, which manages the health and lifecycle of millions of virtual machines, containers, and the underlying host infrastructure.

‍

We are part of the PilotFish Core team within Azure Compute, responsible for building distributed, high-scale foundational services that power the core of the Compute platform. Our systems enable other infrastructure components to operate with high performance and scalability. Today, our platform manages over 13 million servers worldwide, serving both first-party and third-party customers.

‍

As a fast-growing R&D organization, we deliver critical production scenarios while also incubating new ideas. As a software engineer in our team you will gain deep insights into how large-scale distributed systems and cloud platforms are architected. You’ll have the opportunity to work end-to-end on featuresβ€”from prototyping and design to development, testing, and releaseβ€”while accelerating your career growth through hands-on experience with customer-focused scenarios.

‍

At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. We embrace a growth mindset, foster innovation, and collaborate to achieve shared goals. Every day, we live our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive.

Microsoft operates at massive global scale and runs large, repeatable hiring pipelines for both students and full-time roles.

Locations and presence

Microsoft has major offices and engineering hubs across North America, Europe, and Asia, with a large global footprint across many cities listed on Microsoft Careers. Microsoft has been tightening hybrid expectations, including an update to three in-office days per week that starts rolling out from the Puget Sound area from late February 2026.

Palpable Score

86.9
/ 100
Microsoft offers some of the clearest and most repeatable early-career entry points in tech, spanning first-year internships, new-grad hiring, sales and customer-facing early-in-profession tracks, and apprenticeship-style routes. The hiring process is structured and widely documented, and learning support is visible across multiple programs, though team-to-team variation still matters once someone lands. Pay tends to be competitive with strong benefits, and outcomes look positive, but Microsoft does not publish consistent early-career retention and promotion metrics.
