Job description

Summer Internship Programme Overview
Join us as a Summer Intern and discover the world of finance and technology. Dive into our culture, engaging in real projects that offer a comprehensive business overview. Select your desired business area for an in-depth introduction, taking on immediate responsibility guided by a mentor and line manager. Forge connections, explore new horizons, and unlock growth opportunities in this 10 week journey. Join us during the summer of your penultimate year of university to build skills, expand knowledge, and embark on an impactful path towards a promising career.

Why the Private Bank & Wealth Management Summer Intern Programme?
As a summer analyst, you’ll take your first steps into the fascinating world of international private finance, gaining expertise in key financial markets. By working closely with experienced Private Bankers and the teams that support them, you will learn how to assess a client’s needs, then formulate and execute the right solutions to help them reach their goals.

You may:
• Perform financial analysis of potential clients
• Prepare presentations and memoranda for existing and new clients
• Support credit and onboarding due diligence
• Attend client meetings with experienced bankers
• Network and build relationships across a global organisation

• Work alongside value chain partners

And if you really impress us, this could be the beginning of an incredible career. We invite top-performing, eligible summer analysts to join us as full-time Private Banking Analysts after graduation.

Private Bank & Wealth Management at Barclays
Barclays Private Bank works closely with high-net-worth clients and their advisors who have complex banking and investment needs, both in the UK and across the world. We are here to understand their situation and their aspirations, so we can help them to reach their goals. We harness a global network of knowledge, expertise and professional partners to meet our clients’ unique requirements. Whatever they want to achieve, our Private Bankers and specialists create the personalised solutions that will help them achieve it.

Who we're looking for

To be considered for this programme, you must be in your penultimate year of your degree, in any discipline.

Ideally you'll have a keen interest in business and finance and a curiosity to learn. We value resourcefulness, teamwork, enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial spirit, all of which might be showcased through your involvement in extracurricular activities.

Applicants for this position will need the legal right to work in the UK on a full time basis from June 2026 to August 2026.  This is not a role which we can offer sponsorship for at this time.

If you secure a place on our Internship Programme, and this subsequently leads to you receiving an offer for our Graduate Programme, the 2027 Graduate Programme is not one which we can offer sponsorship for at this time. Accordingly, to participate in the Graduate Programme, you would require having the legal right to work full time for the duration of that Programme (i.e. August 2027 to August 2029).

Working in London
If you love the buzz of city life, our global HQ is the place to be. Our London hub is in Canary Wharf, at the heart of London’s financial district. Here, you won’t just be perfectly placed to explore the nation’s capital; you’ll be in a place where you can explore all the many functions and opportunities of a global financial giant. And if you’re technically minded, you’ll get more from your tech career by collaborating with other brilliant minds on game-changing innovations that are redefining the future of finance.

Purpose of the role

To participate in the day-to-day activities of the private bank and wealth management division providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.

About the company

Barclays

Company overview
Barclays is a multinational bank and financial services group with major businesses in UK retail banking and international corporate and investment banking. Barclays serves consumers, small businesses, corporates, and institutional clients through products like lending, payments, cards, markets, and wealth services. Barclays also runs large technology, operations, and data teams that build and maintain banking platforms at scale. Barclays is headquartered in London and operates globally.

Locations and presence

Barclays has major UK hubs including London (Canary Wharf), Glasgow, Manchester, Knutsford (Radbroke), and Northampton, alongside a wide international footprint. Barclays has tightened office attendance expectations in recent years, with public reporting describing a minimum three-days-a-week in-office baseline for many roles, while client-facing teams can be more office-heavy.

Palpable Score

76.1
/ 100
Barclays gives graduates and students multiple reliable entry points through internships, a structured graduate programme (Explorer and Expert paths), apprenticeships, and an earlier Discovery programme. The main downside is that, despite clear official stage descriptions, candidate communication and closure can still feel uneven at scale. Learning support and early-career community design are strong, while published outcome metrics like conversion rates and time-to-promotion are still limited.
