About the Role

Looking to launch your career in a role that protects the UK’s energy future? At EDF, Success is Personal. Here, you’ll learn from experts, develop key skills and play a vital role in safeguarding the infrastructure that powers Britain’s journey to net zero.

"Since joining the Nuclear Security team at EDF, my experience has been nothing short of rewarding. The graduate programme has offered a wealth of opportunities to develop as a young professional, while allowing me to learn from the extensive expertise and knowledge of my colleagues across the organisation.

What initially drew me to the Nuclear Security graduate programme was its tailored structure and the unique environment EDF are in, being the sole operator of Nuclear power stations in the UK. It provided a unique opportunity to gain exposure to EDF’s broader security operations, spend time on operating power stations, and contributing to the future of nuclear in the UK at Hinkley Point C.

I’ve also had the chance to rotate through various teams within our office, which has given me a comprehensive understanding of our overarching security objectives. This experience has reinforced the importance of collaboration in achieving our shared mission: delivering Net Zero safely and securely." - Imogen M, Nuclear Security & Cyber Graduate

The Opportunity

Alongside earning a salary of £37,500 per annum, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a critical area of the UK’s energy infrastructure. You’ll also benefit from a tailored training plan and mentoring from industry experts to help you grow your confidence, knowledge and leadership skills.

This 16-month programme offers a unique opportunity to work within EDF’s Nuclear Security Team – a centre of excellence supporting the UK’s nuclear fleet and new build projects. You’ll rotate across key areas including cyber security, personnel vetting, operational support and security design. You’ll also contribute to regulatory activities and help protect EDF’s assets from evolving threats.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Nuclear Security Graduate at EDF, you’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support the UK’s journey to Net Zero.

Your Work Location

Your primary base will be our state-of-the-art office in #Gloucester, with the option to work from home on a hybrid basis where appropriate and in line with your placement and work commitments. Some placements may also offer the opportunity to travel to other EDF sites across the UK.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a bachelor’s degree (2:2 or higher) in Cyber Security, Risk Management, Assurance Management, Security Management or Programme Management.

At EDF we work hard to maintain a culture where Everyone’s Welcome. We encourage and embrace diversity and how it can improve our experience and performance at work.  It is nevertheless a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least £37,500  per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

About the company

EDF

Company overview
EDF Energy supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses in the UK and positions the business around “An Electric Britain” to improve affordability and sustainability. EDF Energy also operates and builds low-carbon generation, including wind, solar, and nuclear, with major nuclear projects linked to Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. EDF also offers services that support electrification, such as smart metering and solutions for heating and electric mobility.

Locations and presence

EDF Energy operates across the UK and Ireland, with roles spanning corporate offices (for example London, Bristol, Gloucester, Exeter, and Hove) and major operational sites such as nuclear power stations and new-build locations. Work setup varies by programme, with many industrial placements based on-site, and several graduate roles describing hybrid or flexible working while also noting that some locations expect 3–5 days per week in-office.

Palpable Score

79.7
/ 100
EDF Energy offers broad early-career access across apprenticeships, graduate schemes, and industrial placements, with unusually clear programme structure and support named in public materials. Hiring transparency is better than average thanks to published stages, key dates, and strengths-based assessment framing, although candidate-reported experiences still vary. The main limit is outcomes reporting, because public materials do not give consistent conversion, promotion-timeline, or retention metrics for early-career cohorts.
