About the Role

Ready to power up your future with purpose? At EDF, Success is Personal. That means your journey is yours to shape – and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Join our Science and Engineering Graduate Programme and you’ll gain the skills, experience and confidence to build a career that’s uniquely yours – all while helping Britain achieve net zero.

“During my time on the Science and Engineering graduate scheme, I’ve experienced all sides of the nuclear business: from Nuclear Services, Hinkley Point C to working at an operational power station. This has given me an ideal overview of the nuclear industry as I start my career and increased my excitement to contribute to EDF’s goals of reaching net zero.” – Ross, Graduate

The Opportunity

Alongside earning a salary of £37,500 per annum, you’ll work towards professional accreditation with institutions such as the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and others – fully supported by us.

Over the course of this 16-month programme, you’ll rotate through a variety of placements across our nuclear business. You’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to real-world projects – from modelling reactor core behaviour to supporting the development of Hinkley Point C.

You’ll help shape the future of clean energy in the UK, working on projects that matter and building a career with real impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Maths Graduate at EDF, you’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support the UK’s journey to net zero

Your Work Location

You’ll be based at one of our key sites – #Gloucester, #Bristol, #Bridgwater, #Hartlepool or #Sizewell – with the flexibility to rotate across locations depending on your placements. Most roles require 3–5 days per week on site. We’ll support you with practical and financial help to make these moves as smooth as possible.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 2:2 or higher in a Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree in Maths, Science, Radiological Protection, Hazards or a related subject. You’ll also need strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in nuclear energy and technology.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least £37,500 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

We anticipate significant interest in this graduate scheme – so please don’t delay, apply today!

Our Virtual Assessment Centre will take place on 10th December.

About the company

EDF

Company overview
EDF Energy supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses in the UK and positions the business around “An Electric Britain” to improve affordability and sustainability. EDF Energy also operates and builds low-carbon generation, including wind, solar, and nuclear, with major nuclear projects linked to Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. EDF’s 2025 progress update describes EDF as one of the UK’s largest energy service providers, supplying 3.7 million homes and businesses. EDF also offers services that support electrification, such as smart metering and solutions for heating and electric mobility.

Locations and presence

EDF Energy operates across the UK and Ireland, with roles spanning corporate offices (for example London, Bristol, Gloucester, Exeter, and Hove) and major operational sites such as nuclear power stations and new-build locations. Work setup varies by programme, with many industrial placements based on-site, and several graduate roles describing hybrid or flexible working while also noting that some locations expect 3–5 days per week in-office.

Palpable Score

79.7
/ 100
EDF Energy offers broad early-career access across apprenticeships, graduate schemes, and industrial placements, with unusually clear programme structure and support named in public materials. Hiring transparency is better than average thanks to published stages, key dates, and strengths-based assessment framing, although candidate-reported experiences still vary. The main limit is outcomes reporting, because public materials do not give consistent conversion, promotion-timeline, or retention metrics for early-career cohorts.
