Amazon Robotics is located in the greater Boston area, the epicenter of robotics innovation. Our diverse team of engineers come from all over the world to design, test and build our dynamic fleet of robots and mechatronic systems.

The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics. Within this group, the Manufacturing Test and Controls (MTAC) team is the center of excellence for ensuring every product meets our rigorous standards for quality and reliability. We are seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to support 2nd shift test operations at our Greater Boston facilities. This is a hands-on technical role focused on executing test procedures, troubleshooting complex failures, and ensuring the continuous production of our robotic manipulation workcells.

As a Test Engineer on the 2nd shift, you will be the primary technical resource for diagnosing hardware and software issues on the line. You will work closely with the 1st shift engineering team and production technicians to maintain high yields, perform root cause analysis, and provide feedback to improve product quality. This role reports to the Manager of Product Sustaining and Support Test Engineering.

Key job responsibilities

- Actively foster and drive culture of inclusion.

- Provide immediate technical support for 2nd shift manufacturing test operations, minimizing equipment downtime.

- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for failures in robotic workcells, automated test equipment (ATE), and devices under test.

- Assist production test technicians with complex diagnostic procedures and ensure adherence to standard work.

- Monitor shift-level KPIs (yield, uptime, cycle time) and escalate systemic issues to the engineering team.

- Execute shift handovers with the 1st shift team, ensuring accurate reporting of daily issues and maintenance needs.

- Support the implementation of new test strategies, software updates, and continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.

- Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to contain defects and ensure only high-quality products are shipped.

- Provide feedback on product manufacturability and testability to design and test development engineers based on failure data.

- Document technical issues and troubleshooting steps to update the knowledge base.

Champion a culture of safety, following all procedures and promoting safe working practices.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in robotics, mechanical/mechatronics engineering, systems engineering or related field
- Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Hands-on experience with industrial robotics (e.g., FANUC, ABB, UR) or industrial automation systems (PLCs, VFDs/motion control).
- Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems using standard lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, C++, or PLC Ladder Logic).

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience writing technical documents, project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or sustaining engineering environment.
- Experience with automated test systems using NI LabVIEW/TestStand or Python.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and quality tracking tools.
- Experience with machine vision systems or sensor integration.
- Strong data analysis skills to identify trends in failure modes.

About the company

Amazon

Company overview
Amazon runs a wide set of consumer and enterprise businesses, including online retail, Prime Video and other subscription services, advertising, devices, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Amazon also builds large-scale software and infrastructure for logistics, payments, and cloud computing, and hires across engineering, product, operations, corporate functions, and frontline roles. Amazon’s early-career hiring spans both office-based teams and operational sites, which means “entry-level” can look very different depending on the org.

Locations and presence

Amazon has major corporate hubs in Seattle and Arlington (HQ2) plus large engineering and operations sites across North America, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. For many corporate roles, Amazon’s stated expectation has shifted to five days per week in-office for office-based employees (with exceptions depending on role and site).

Palpable Score

76.7
/ 100
Amazon is one of the most accessible early-career employers at scale, with recurring internships and graduate hiring across many disciplines and geographies. Amazon also provides unusually clear public information about interview mechanics and publishes pay ranges on a large share of roles, which supports informed decision-making. The biggest drag on outcomes is the combination of high-performance culture signals and recent corporate job cuts, which adds risk for early-career stability depending on team and org.
