Investment Consulting – Client Group
Join Aon as an Investment Consulting summer intern and for 9 weeks step into life as a valued member of our elite team of specialists.
Our consultants have been advising employers and governments on their pension schemes and other wealth — totalling around $4 trillion — for over 60 years.
Your Role on our Investment Consulting Summer Internship
Join us as an investment consulting intern in either our Defined Benefit (DB) Client Group or Defined Contribution (DC) Client Group, helping to advise our clients on everything from setting investment strategies and selection of investment managers to corporate transactions and asset transfers.
- You’ll be a key member of our dedicated teams, playing a vital, hands-on role in giving our global clients the support they need. This involves providing investment servicing and advice covering markets and strategic considerations, such as managing assets (for both the DB and DC Client Groups) and liabilities (for the DB Client Group only). You’ll gain early experience of dealing with a wide range of investments, adapting them around economic conditions and outlooks.
- In the DB Client Group, you’ll also learn how and why pension scheme liabilities change because of economic assumptions – such as inflation, interest rates and the effect that market movements have on invested assets. Whilst in the DC Client Group, you'll learn about the DC pension vehicles, applicable regulatory and legislative rules and main asset classes and investment theory relating specifically to a DC pension scheme.
What your day could look like:
Over the internship you could experience:
- Setting investment strategies and selection of investment managers,
- Supporting our consultants on all aspects of environmental, social and governance; or
- Working with pension scheme trustees to implement their long-term strategies efficiently and target better outcomes.

Your Development
As an Aon Summer Intern, you will be enrolled onto our award-winning development programme. For 9 weeks you will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of insightful and interactive training and development activities in addition to your role. Here are couple of key elements of our intern’s 9-week development programme:
- Induction – a great way for you to learn about Aon and our Story, meet and network with your fellow interns and Aon colleagues from across our business including senior leaders; technical and business training to equip you with skills and knowledge to help you in your role
- Aon Business focused project – our interns are given a project to complete during the programme. You and your team of fellow interns will be tasked to research and help to find solutions for a real business challenge. At the end of the internship, you will have the chance to present your findings to a panel of Aon colleagues
- Feedback – when you start as an intern at Aon, you will have time with your line manager to discuss your goals and throughout your internship you will receive feedback and support.
Your career beyond your Summer Internship
Our summer internship programme is designed as a potential first step towards a long-term career with us. Your performance during your internship may lead to an offer for a place on our graduate programme in the same business unit the following year. We encourage you to apply for an internship that aligns with your long-term interests and career ambitions. By choosing a role that matches your aspirations, you’ll be better positioned to take full advantage of our Launch development programme, which offers comprehensive support for your professional qualification, a level 4 Diploma in Insurance from the CII (Chartered Insurance Institute), and ongoing career growth.
You will also be expected to study towards your Investment Management Certificate (IMC) Professional Qualification. After that, we’ll ask you to choose between taking either the Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) or Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) professional qualification.

- A self-starter that can take the initiative, work independently when needed but can also work collaboratively in a team environment
- Technological awareness. Strong interest in the rapidly evolving technological landscape and a willingness to understand & learn more about the challenges and opportunities that it presents

We recognise the value for our Early Career colleagues of being in the office environment from the beginning of their programme. As a new intern, you will spend your 9 weeks in the Aon office or with clients.
If you join us as a graduate after your internship, you will spend the first 6 months based in the office to support your learning, development, and progression. This will enable you access to support from managers, collaborate with colleagues as well as grow your network across Aon. After completing this initial training period, you will then have the opportunity to work more flexibly, spending at least 3 to 4 days face to face in the Aon office or with clients.
Aon UK Internship Recruitment: What to Expect
We know applying for your first internship role can be exciting, and sometimes a little daunting. At Aon, we’re committed to making our recruitment process as transparent and supportive as possible. Here’s how our selection journey works, and what you can expect at each stage:
1. Application Review
- We process applications on a rolling basis, moving candidates forward as they complete each stage.
- Every application is carefully reviewed by our team (not by AI).
- Due to the high volume of interest, this stage can take up to two weeks.
- Please note: We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point.
2. Online Assessment
- We understand you want to put your best foot forward, so you’ll have 5 calendar days to complete the online assessment.
- If you need more time, just let us know as extensions are available.
3. Video Interview
- Preparation matters, so you’ll have up to 10 days (240 hours) from receiving your invitation to record and submit your video interview.
- Rest assured: Every video interview is reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.
- You’ll typically hear back from us within 2-3 weeks after submitting your interview, though times may vary depending on the number of applications.
4. Assessment Centres
- Our assessment centres are held in person at the Aon office closest to the location you applied for.
- Please note: Due to the large number of applications, not every candidate who completes a video interview will be invited to an assessment centre.
- Assessment centres usually run from November to May. (With a pause over the Christmas holidays.)
- If selected, you’ll have 7-14 days’ notice to help you arrange any travel.
- We run a limited number of Assessment Centre so please make every effort to attend if invited.
- We reimburse reasonable travel costs (such as standard class train tickets). Flights and hotels are only covered if agreed in advance.
- At the assessment centre stage, your CV and cover letter will be shared with hiring managers. This helps them get a fuller picture of you as a candidate—but these documents are not used for initial screening.
