Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s System Operations Center (SOC) Engineering department is seeking a motivated individual to support the Company’s evolving transmission grid and assist with the industry leading projects we have in progress.

The System Operations Engineering team supports our System Operators by maintaining and updating our Energy Management System (EMS). The is a complex software system that receives hundreds of thousands of measurements from substations within our territory and neighboring utilities, makes them available to the System Operators in a variety of views, and performs complex calculations on this data for many different purposes, such as ‘what-if’ scenarios (known as Contingency Analysis). Our team is also in the midst of a multi-year project, partnering with a vendor, to build a state-of-the-art synchrophasor-based EMS, utilizing synchrophasor data updating at 30 times per second.

Interns will work with experienced team members to assist with projects that bridge our System Operations Engineering and EMS IT teams, learning about how a System Operations Center functions, the technology and system architecture of an EMS, and how to be effective as a professional engineer within a large corporation.
