Description

Join our mission to create the world's most customer-centric advertising platform while protecting user privacy! This is a young and evolving business within Amazon where creativity and drive can have a lasting impact on the way video is enjoyed worldwide. You will be encouraged to see the big picture, be creative, and positively impact millions of customers. We’re building the future of advertising — yes, it’s challenging, but it’s also a lot of fun.

We're looking for a passionate Software Development Engineer to join our brand new Privacy & Customer Trust (PACT) team in Toronto. You'll be one of the founding members in Toronto, and take the lead in creating privacy-centric advertising experiences. Your role will involve developing and maintaining privacy-focused services and APIs, implementing customer consent management features, and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations through your code. You'll write clean, efficient, and well-tested code while collaborating closely with team members on technical solutions. Your day-to-day tasks will include participating in code reviews and technical discussions, as well as tackling challenging technical problems. You'll build high-performance consent management systems, implement real-time privacy preference handling, and create scalable solutions for processing customer choices. Additionally, you'll develop robust fallback mechanisms to maintain service reliability and work extensively with distributed systems and microservices. You will mentor junior engineers on effective use of both traditional and AI-powered development tools while contributing to the team's growth. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of privacy-respecting advertising technology in the streaming media landscape.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical strategies and contribute to the team's long-term roadmap, including integration of emerging AI technologies
5. Mentor junior engineers on effective use of both traditional and AI-powered development tools while contributing to the team's growth
7. Analyze and optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability using data-driven approaches

About the company

Amazon

Company overview
Amazon runs a wide set of consumer and enterprise businesses, including online retail, Prime Video and other subscription services, advertising, devices, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Amazon also builds large-scale software and infrastructure for logistics, payments, and cloud computing, and hires across engineering, product, operations, corporate functions, and frontline roles. Amazon’s early-career hiring spans both office-based teams and operational sites, which means “entry-level” can look very different depending on the org.

Locations and presence

Amazon has major corporate hubs in Seattle and Arlington (HQ2) plus large engineering and operations sites across North America, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific. For many corporate roles, Amazon’s stated expectation has shifted to five days per week in-office for office-based employees (with exceptions depending on role and site).

Palpable Score

76.7
/ 100
Amazon is one of the most accessible early-career employers at scale, with recurring internships and graduate hiring across many disciplines and geographies. Amazon also provides unusually clear public information about interview mechanics and publishes pay ranges on a large share of roles, which supports informed decision-making. The biggest drag on outcomes is the combination of high-performance culture signals and recent corporate job cuts, which adds risk for early-career stability depending on team and org.
