The Team:
Our GIS and Spatial Analytics team is at the forefront of leveraging location intelligence to drive business insights across S&P Global's diverse portfolio. Responsibilities and Impact:
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases, applications, and analytical models to support business intelligence and decision-making processes
- Create interactive maps, dashboards, and visualization tools using GIS software platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo to communicate complex spatial data insights
- Perform spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks including proximity analysis, spatial joins, network analysis, and statistical modeling to identify patterns and trends
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS solutions with existing business systems and workflows, ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility
- Design and implement automated workflows and scripts to streamline repetitive GIS processes and improve operational efficiency
- Provide technical expertise and training to stakeholders on GIS tools and spatial analysis methodologies, expanding the organization's geospatial capabilities
What We're Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or related field with coursework in spatial analysis and cartography
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience with GIS software platforms such as ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, QGIS, or MapInfo, including proficiency in spatial analysis tools and extensions
- Programming experience with scripting languages including but not limited to Python, R, or JavaScript for GIS automation and custom tool development
- Strong understanding of spatial databases and experience with database management systems such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle Spatial
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to work with large, complex geospatial datasets
- Strong communication skills and ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with web mapping technologies and frameworks such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, or Mapbox for creating interactive web-based mapping applications
- Knowledge of cloud-based GIS platforms including but not limited to ArcGIS Online, Google Earth Engine, or AWS Location Services
- Familiarity with remote sensing data processing and analysis tools like ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, or open-source alternatives such as GDAL
- Experience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows in team environments
