
S&P Global Energy is seeking summer interns to work directly with one or more price reporting and strategic engagement teams across oil, natural gas, power, chemicals, shipping, metals, LNG, agriculture, and/or energy transition markets. The intern will learn how we generate the content that powers Platts’ price assessments and news produced for the markets that we cover. The intern will learn about market reporting and price formation processes in addition to generating news coverage, performing research, and working on special projects.

• Training and mentorship – including Basics of Market Reporting & Editorial Standards, as well as training on commodity markets, editing, reporting, and writing
• Opportunity to learn about various aspects of oil, power, natural gas, LNG, chemicals, metals, agriculture, shipping and/or energy transition markets, and contribute to critical research projects
• Exposure to several market subjects including supply and demand, infrastructure, geopolitics, transportation, and regulation, and how these subjects impact respective markets
• Shadow experienced Price Reporters in assigned markets
• Receive hands-on research and reporting experience
• Conduct research and writing assignments for potential publication
• Identify drivers moving daily markets
• Complete research and/or specials projects
• Become skilled in successful interviewing techniques and how to obtain data for commentary
• Write concise, informative commentary and research pieces
• Verify source information through appropriate channels
• Learn and demonstrate understanding of Platts price assessment and Market-on-Close (MOC) process
• Candidates must be in their penultimate year of university
• Studying towards a Journalism degree is preferred but all degrees are welcome
• Strong communication skills (good verbal skills, listening techniques, and a clear, concise writing style)
• Problem-solving, time-management, attention to detail & strong organizational skills
• Intellectually curious, and the ability to learn quickly and produce high-quality results
• Some knowledge of social media and web technologies (e.g. HTML)
• Significant comfort level with suite of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
