In this position...
Ford is seeking an experience Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic engineer to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for the design, development and release of switch components utilized throughout the vehicle. The candidate will interface with several functional areas to ensure the Switch component being developed performs to customer expectation and Ford requirements. This position will provide a unique and challenging D&R experience combining electrical, mechanical, styling, software, and vehicle-level system performance.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- This position is for a Switch Component Design and Release Engineer. The Core Component engineer will work with the Program Application Engineer(s) to design, develop and release a switch component for specific Programs.
- Work within a cross-function team (supplier, Program teams, studio, ergonomics, purchasing)
- Utilize core engineering documents and core design rules to initiate and to lead Full-Service Supplier (FSS) delivery of DFMEA, DVP&Rs, 8D’s, and all other program specific foundation documents.
- Create component specifications, Quality Documents and drawings with the FSS
- Conduct technical design reviews with the component supplier
- As needed, support /generate development of Functional Specifications, Engineering Specifications, Diagnostic Specifications
- Work closely with suppliers and quality group to understand and improve R/1000, TGW concerns
- Work closely with supplier, purchasing and OCE team to ensure Cost targets are met, and cost efficient product is achieved
- Design, development and release of switch components aligned with Ford Global Product Development System (GPDS) process/milestone deliverables
- Lead component development/release and component concerns resolution utilizing Ford Product Development tools such as FEDE, FEDEBOM, TYGRA, WERS, VSEM, JIRA/JAMA, eFDVS, CDP&R, Integrator, DEMS/AIMS, etc.
- Attend/Lead/Support Commodity PATs and support Vehicle/Program Launch (as needed)
- Some travel required to support Ford Assembly Plants and/or Supplier facilities, especially during Program Launch phase
- Continuously improve D&R process by enhancing requirements based on lessons learned
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar)
- 3+ years experience in Design and Release project engineering, related to the development of electromechanical, mechanical or electrical components
- 1+ years experience in program and/or project management, including supplier management and negotiation
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to present to groups

- Previous experience related to the development of switches or other electrical/electronic components for automotive applications preferred

- Familiarity/understanding of CAN and LIN vehicle networks.
- Prior OEM or Supplier experience related to electrical components
- Ability to work independently without close supervision; self-starter
- Past experience in working with/within a large, diverse cross-functional team
