Overview
‍Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.
This position is for a Research Internship with the EPIC (Extended Perception, Interaction & Cognition) research group in Microsoft Research’s Redmond Lab. We have multiple positions available. Research Internships will be focused on creating new interactive experiences that “blend artificial and human intelligence”. Topics range from coupling the power of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques with interaction design to reinvent how we work with content, to building the next generation of multi-modal interfaces adapting in real time to user task and contexts.
‍
‍
Most sought-after skills for this internship include:
- Generative AI: LLMs, VLMs, Stable Diffusion and related technologies
- HCI system building: hands-on experience prototyping with the web stack (Typescript, Node.js, React); we expect the intern will leverage AI when programming yet demonstrates software architecture and programming knowledge. Â
‍
‍
Additional relevant skills (depending on projects):
- Interaction design: experience with devising multimodal interactions (touch, pen, speech), context sensing, responsive & adaptive UIs
- Experience design: storyboarding, envisioning video techniques
- UX research: conducting qualitative and quantitative user studies
