JOB SUMMARY
The role is responsible for notarizing affidavits and legal documents related to credit card debt collections. This position ensures the authenticity of signatures and documents used in debt recovery processes, such as litigation or settlement agreements, while adhering to state-specific notarial laws and regulations. The role is critical in supporting the Firm and its vendor partners by providing legally binding notarizations to facilitate debt recovery efforts. The Notary Public typically works independently or as part of a legal or collections team, reporting to a supervisor Collections and Recoveries team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Notarization of Documents: Notarize affidavits, debt validation documents, and other legal paperwork related to credit card debt, ensuring compliance with state notarial laws.
- Document Review: Review, prepare and attest to sworn documents and affidavits, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards for the collection and recoveries process.
- Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to state-specific notarial regulations and federal laws, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), to ensure ethical and legal practices in debt-related notarizations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate notary logbooks and records of all transactions, including signer details and document types, as required by state law.
- Collaboration: Work with legal teams and collection agencies to ensure notarized documents meet court requirements.
- Confidentiality: Safeguard sensitive personal and financial information in accordance with privacy laws, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification: Active Notary Public commission in the state of Texas, with knowledge of state-specific notarial laws and procedures.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Notary Public, preferably with exposure to legal or financial documents; experience in credit card debt collections or litigation is a plus.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in notarial practices or paralegal studies is advantageous.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with document management systems and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, PDF editors) for reviewing and processing documents.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and customer service skills for interacting with stakeholders; ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
PREFRRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification as a Notary Signing Agent (NSA) through the National Notary Association or similar organization.
- Experience in high-volume notarizations for debt collection or legal proceedings.
- Knowledge of credit card debt recovery processes or familiarity with court documentation requirements.
