Overview

Reporting to the Head of Origination in the Commercial Group, the principal role of the Origination Associate is to provide general support to the Origination team. A successful candidate with be a highly motivated and creative individual that is eager to develop their Origination skill set and to contribute to the success of the Origination team.

The Origination Associate is responsible for research and market analysis to identify new transaction ideas and customer connections, working with the Trading, Analytics, Risk, and other team on the evaluation of new Origination deals, transacting with counterparties on Mid-Marketing flow deals, and developing strategies to optimize the risk management of the existing Origination portfolio. These activities are in support of the growing Wholesale business with a particular focus on maximizing gross margin and effective risk management.

The wholesale commodities that SmartestEnergy US (SEUS) transacts include power, gas, RECs, and carbon certificates. The Origination group is responsible for generating gross margin by executing structured transactions with counterparties in the commodities and regional markets that we operate.
