A chat-first product, Cleo is right on the cutting edge of AI design, creating brand new technologies to capitalise on the remarkable recent advancements in this space.

As a Conversational Designer, you’ll be responsible for solving design challenges through words, concepts, systems, and terminology. At Cleo, this often means (but is not limited to) creating new chat experiences, helping train large language models on our uniquely irreverent tone of voice, and working alongside an incredible team to build one of the most powerful AI assistants for personal finance, with the unique personality to match.

This role sits within the Chat Pillar, working on the conversational side of our technology stack, specifically powering generative chat experiences. You’ll be responsible for implementing feature experiences within Chat and potentially other areas of the product into the generative environment, managing stakeholders, and working closely with ML engineers, data teams, product designers, and user researchers. The scope spans the full LLM product experience—from infrastructure to customer-facing features—while applying financial health principles to ensure a cohesive and impactful consumer product.

Experience:
- A degree in an area related to English, Linguistics, Communications, Psychology, Business, Tech, etc
- Ideally 1-2+ years in conversation design and working in cross-functional product squads to deliver user-centric products
- A passionate writer, with an interest in writing for user-centred products
- A desire to learn, this is a varied role working closely with data scientists and AI, so an interest in new technologies is really important, though training will be provided
- A collaborative approach to content — at least once a week we get together as a team to throw ideas out and try new approaches to writing and conversation design
- An ability to adapt to different writing styles, voices and mediums
- Strong proofreading and editing skills
- Content Expertise: You’re a Content Design expert with a portfolio that demonstrates a mastery of writing for digital experiences.
- Tone and Voice: You know the Cleo tone of voice so well, it’s second nature. You understand the nuances of US audiences and can adapt language to resonate effectively.
- Technical Know-How: You’re confident using design language and terminology
- Strategic Thinking: You align Content Design with company OKRs and proactively connect your decisions to Cleo’s broader strategic goals.
- Data-Driven: You use evidence, data, and research to inform your writing decisions.
