Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.
You will:
- Analyze Systems Engineering (SysEng) workflows to identify and prioritize opportunities for GenAI-driven automation.
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain production-grade, end-to-end automation workflows leveraging Generative AI (GenAI).
- Conduct advanced prompt engineering to create, test, and iteratively refine prompts, ensuring GenAI models perform tasks effectively and reliably.
- Collaborate closely with the SysEng team to gather requirements, demonstrate progress, integrate solutions, and provide support.
- Document the design, implementation, prompts, and maintenance procedures for the developed GenAI automation workflows.
You have:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or a technical related field.
- Expert Prompt Engineering: Demonstrated ability to craft precise, detailed, and highly effective prompts to control LLM behavior and outputs, requiring meticulous attention to detail.
- GenAI Application Principles: Strong understanding of core GenAI concepts at the application layer, such as "predict next token" and "thinking budget," to inform effective prompt design (e.g., understanding why Chain of Thought works).
- GenAI-Augmented Programming: Proficiency in Python and working knowledge of SQL, with a crucial skill in using GenAI tools to augment coding abilities to produce expert-level code.
- Software Development Fundamentals: Experience with version control systems (e.g., Cider, Git) and standard software development practices.
We prefer:
- Understanding of Systems Engineering (SysEng) and Test Engineering principles, including test design methodologies.
- Experience with the Gemini API.
