Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI’s Data Technology organization is responsible for building and evolving a state-of-the-art data management platform that serves as the backbone for managing complex and high-quality data across the firm.

As part of this organization, our User Interface team focuses on designing and developing intuitive, high-performance front-end applications that enable seamless data validation, correction, and interaction. We work at the intersection of powerful data systems and user experience, ensuring that stakeholders can efficiently engage with the platform.

We emphasize technical excellence, design-driven development, and a user-first mindset, continuously iterating to deliver robust and elegant solutions that meet the needs of all our stakeholders

Your Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Ownership of UI Development: Independently lead the full UI development lifecycle for complex projects—from requirements gathering and UX design to implementation, testing, and deployment—ensuring high-quality, user-focused solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with a diverse set of stakeholders, including Data Operations teams to deeply understand operational workflows and translate them into effective user experiences. Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and ensure smooth data flow, and partner with DevOps teams to streamline deployment, automation, and performance monitoring of front-end applications.

Code Excellence & Architecture: Deliver clean, maintainable, and scalable code aligned with modern development standards. Actively contribute to UI architectural decisions, participate in code reviews, and promote component reusability across the platform.

Technology Foresight: Stay informed of emerging tools, frameworks, and best practices in frontend development to enhance team capabilities and future-proof solutions.

AI-Driven Development: Identify opportunities to leverage AI-assisted tooling and workflows to accelerate build cycles, reduce manual effort, and improve time-to-market for new features

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

React.js Expertise: Hands-on experience in developing scalable, component-based front-end applications using React.js and its associated libraries and tooling.

Strong JavaScript Fundamentals: In-depth knowledge of modern JavaScript, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following industry best practices.

Test-Driven Development (TDD): Practical experience in implementing TDD using frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, or similar, with a strong focus on code quality, coverage, and reliability.

Analytical Thinking & Debugging: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex requirements, identify issues quickly, and deliver performant and user-centric UI solutions.

CSS & Responsive Design: Proficient in writing modular, responsive, and maintainable CSS

AI-Augmented Development: Exposure to AI-powered tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI pair programming, or UI generation tools) to enhance productivity, reduce development time, and streamline repetitive tasks.

Database Integration: Strong hands on experience in writing SQL queries and good understanding of at least one relational (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL), with the ability to interpret data models and work effectively with backend data flows.

Cloud Environment Familiarity: Working knowledge of at least one major public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), particularly as it relates to deploying and managing front-end applications

Palpable Score

/ 100
MSCI is a solid early-career choice if you want a mix of finance and technology, because the company runs a structured 9-week summer internship and backs this with clear candidate guidance for technology hiring. The biggest strengths are transparency on interview stages in tech and visible investment in onboarding and learning tools, while the main limits are thin published data on intern conversion and early-career progression outcomes.
