The Role: S&P Global Energy is seeking candidates for our 10-week IMPACT Summer Internship Program from June 2026 within our Research and Analytics business.
Location: Houston, TX (relocation assistance not available)
The Team: The Cost & Supply Analytics team delivers high‑quality cost intelligence to subscribers through MSA reports, company reports, cost indexes, and global cost forums. Impact: This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the development of a new global cost benchmarking product used by major operators and national oil companies. The intern will gain hands‑on experience with real‑world cost data, learn how strategic decisions in energy are shaped, and work with senior leaders driving the initiative. This role offers strong exposure to global energy markets and the ability to influence an emerging product from the ground up.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, clean, and organize cost data across upstream Opex, Capex, seismic, and LNG value chains.
- Support the development of cost benchmarking models, dashboards, and data structures.
- Assist with data validation via research and building up module knowledge.
- Build summary insights that highlight cost trends, ranges, and operator differences.
- Support automation efforts using Excel, Power BI, or basic scripting to streamline workflows.
- Contribute to project documentation, presentations, and internal stakeholder updates.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering (Petrochemical, Chemical, Mechanical), Energy Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field with a focus on energy, etc. and graduating May 2027.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation).
- Must have experience or strong interest in commodities, energy global markets and overall interconnected energy business ecosystem.
- Comfortable working with numerical datasets and performing structured analysis.
- Ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to summarize findings effectively.
- Curiosity, willingness to ask questions, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a global team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical:
- Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or another data visualization tool.
- Exposure to oil & gas cost structures, supply chain concepts, or energy economics.
- Basic experience with Python, SQL, or Excel VBA.
- Interest in cost modelling, benchmarking, or financial analysis.
Soft Skills:
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning about the energy industry.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Analytical storytelling — ability to convert data into meaningful insights.
- Comfort working in ambiguous or rapidly evolving project environments.
